Fun, Free things to do!

The other day I was chatting with a girlfriend, she told me she didn’t have any set plans for the weekend and wanted to do something fun but she’s on a tight budget so it had to be free. The only things she could think of where going out to lunch, shopping or heading to a movie, so we put our heads together and came up with this list of 12 fun, free things to do!

  1. Go on a hike, there are so many hiking trails out there to choose from, grab your phone and google up “best hikes in…(your state or city)” if hiking is not an option or none of the hikes suit your fancy, a walk is always a good idea, head out to a neighborhood you’ve been meaning to explore and start walking!
  2. This next one is fun, but a little risky, cook something with items you have on hand, scour your fridge, freezer and pantry. Look for things that you think might pair well together, can’t think of anything? Hop on Pinterest and see if there’s anything you can make with what you have on hand.
  3. Try a new workout! There are SO many great apps out there that you can try, many are either free or have a week long free trial, try apps like Fittbe workouts or Popsugar.
  4. Plan your next vacation! This is a fun one, look through internet sites and see where you would like to go next, once you get that figured out, start researching where to stay, what to do, your budget, etc.
  5. Go for a swim in the nearby lake (this is probably best in the summertime!). Slip on your swimsuit, grab the sunscreen and a good book and spend the day at the lake, swimming and lounging in the sunshine!
  6. Read a good book! Go to the library and pick up that book you’ve been wanting to read!
  7. Check museum or zoo schedules, often museums or zoos had a “free” day where patrons can go and explore free of charge, check out the websites or simply give them a call to find out when the free day is.
  8. This is one of my all time favorites, rearrange furniture in your house, move pictures on the wall to different locations, flip your couch to the other side of the room, just experiment, even if you hate it you can always put it back the way it was and bonus, you probably got a bit of a workout too.
  9. Take a bath. This is the best way to really treat yourself and relax, and if you do it at “happy hour” time you can read a book, while sipping an adult beverage and I always recommend lighting a candle or two! If you have epson salts, add a handful, this will help with the relaxation while gving you a probably much needed dose of magnesium too! You will feel refreshed and revitalized afterward!
  10. Start a new Netflix series, there are SO many great series on Netflix or Hulu that are ‘binge” worthy. Grab the remote and maybe some popcorn and start watching!
  11. Do some gardening. There are always things that need to be done in the garden, whether it’s weeding, pruning or harvesting. Plants some seeds, water your plants, shape your trees with pruning (look up a youtube video if you’re a beginner). Live in an apartment? No problem, Plan a garden for your balcony, look up container plants that work well in small spaces.
  12. Learn some new dance moves, at grace girl we love to dance, go on youtube and check out a few videos for “modern dance moves”, the “electric slide”, maybe a line dance!
